I earned an undergraduate Bachelor's Degree in French from East Carolina University; I graduated from Medical School at East Carolina University in 1998.

I did a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, completed it in 1993.
I went from residency into practice in the Department of Veterans Affairs and as of 2012 I'm in my 20th year of Federal Service.

I've done Primary Care, Hospital Medicine, Outpatient Psychiatry, Hospital Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine.
I've been a Program Director of a Combined Residency in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry for ten years,
and for three years I was Chief of Medicine at an Academic VA Medical Center. I am a cancer survivor.
My primary interest is the interaction between Mind, Body and Spirit. I have over 100 lectures in my portfolio,
including talks on general medical and psychiatric disorders. I am also a blogger with an interest in politics, economics, culture and society.
